Yessss, this is a great post! I can't remember if I've covered it at Unstack Substack in the past, but I definitely use standalone pages for my "Work with me" and "Buy Now" links in my nav bar. It's so easy and brilliant. 😊

Thank you, Kristi.

I've been playing around with the idea of expanding my home page with more options, it looks like the Universe it telling me to get to it : )

I'd listen to the Universe....

Get to it, Barry.

Wow, 🤯 this was invaluable to a newbie like me. I'm going to put some of these recommendations into practice, thank you! 👍🏾

Thanks, Mike—I didn’t know, and this is hugely helpful. Something I’ll use, and think of you when I do!

Glad to hear it's hugely helpful, Ed. Thanks for your kind comment.

Mike, sent you DM

Phew! Thanks Mike. I thought it was there but I got distracted. Imagine that 😂

So can we have two custom pages? And can we unpublish it and keep it in drafts?

Mike Searles's avatar

Hi Dr Donna. I never get distracted... hold that thought. Back again. Just noticed something else. 😉

Yes, you can create multiple custom pages. Then, if you have too many custom page tabs to fit on the navigation bar at the top of your home page - try creating another custom page to host a list of links to the other custom pages. Title it, All My Best Stuff or something similar.

Yes, I believe we can park an unpublished custom page in drafts.

Haven't done so yet so I'll stand corrected if wrong. But creating a custom page is the same process as creating a post. In the end we either hit publish or we don't. Until we publish or delete it remains as a draft.

By the way - a published custom page can be edited ad infinitum (as needs arise). And can be deleted permanantly if that need arises.

Glad you found the post helpful.

Just call me Donna or hey you, I don't care, Mike, but everyone insisted I front Dr, but that doesn't feel like me.

Going back to school at 58 impressed some folks. I just wanted to have PhD on my book covers 😂

Your formatting enabled me to scan then mentally pause and capture. So much better than posts with high cognitive load. Sheesh!

Having many tabs kills sites so having one as a table of contents of juicy stuff is a great plan.

Thanks a bunch, Mike!

Ha! I'm still in the process of studying towards a PhD (Metaphysics) for the very same reason. 😀

Let's stay in touch.

Dr Donna Blevins's avatar

Damn man! I had to get a masters first so I said, make it metaphysics. Easy. Peasy. Hahaha

Got so involved, got a second master's in Performance Spiritual Psychology

PhD is in Metaphysical Coaching

Mike Searles's avatar

High level. Congrats on graduating. There's work involved - and one can get distracted 😉. Hence me on Substack...

Thank you! What a helpful post on ways to make the most of Substack. I'm in the process of optimizing, so this is especially helpful!

Mike Searles's avatar

Glad you found it helpful.

Yana G.Y.'s avatar

Oh I know that, but I’m so missing an option to organise them in a menu to be able to properly visualise.

Mike Searles's avatar

You're so right. That's our next challenge. Maybe a single custom page to list links to all our custom pages? 😀

Yana G.Y.'s avatar

Ah, yes I’ve thought of that, might be an option till Substack adds teh functionality (hope they plan for this)

Mike Searles's avatar

Thank you, Yana.

Thank you! This is so perfectly timed! I am just going to "fix" my substack. When I started I thought that Sections were the way you made new pages - now I have a bit of a mess to clean up. I'm looking forward to testing this out.

Mike Searles's avatar

Good to hear, Sue. Have fun in the process. If you get stuck - just ask. Somebody will help. Or send me a DM.

I’m so glad you posted this, Mike! It is a tremendous feature of Substack. I use my pages in many of the ways you subscribe.

Thank you, Elizabeth.
